Terms
Last updated 8 October 2026
Vela is for people aged 18 and over. When you create an account we ask you to confirm that, and to accept these Terms and our Privacy Notice.
What Vela does
You choose a gift and pay for it. We send you a link. You pass that link to the person you are sending it to, and they tell us where to deliver it. We arrange for a local supplier to make and deliver it.
Prices
All prices are in US dollars and include delivery, duties and taxes. There is no separate shipping charge and nothing to pay on arrival. The price you see at checkout is the amount charged.
The three-day window
A gift link stays open for up to three days from when you pay (a little less if your card needs the hold settled sooner). If it has not been accepted by then, we cancel the order and release the hold on your card automatically — you do not have to ask. If a payment had already been taken, the refund goes back to the card you paid with and usually takes five to ten business days to appear.
The recipient can decline
Anyone can decline a gift, for any reason or none, and we will not tell you why. You are refunded in full. Nobody is obliged to accept a gift, and a product that made declining awkward would be a product for pressuring people.
What you will not be told
We do not tell you the recipient’s address, city or country, the tracking number, or the carrier. You will be told when the gift is opened, accepted, on its way and delivered. See Privacy for why.
If we cannot deliver
Sometimes the gift you chose cannot reach where the recipient is, or sells out between your payment and their acceptance. When that happens the recipient is offered alternatives of the same value and chooses one; if they would rather not, they decline and you are refunded. You are told what changed, never why or where.
Cancelling
You can cancel a gift and get a full refund at any time before the recipient accepts it. In the Vela app, open the gift and tap Cancel gift. Until someone accepts a gift your card is only held, not charged, so cancelling releases the hold. Once they have accepted and given us delivery details we cannot cancel it from your side — at that point somebody has given us their address on the strength of your gift, and letting the sender pull it back is a way to use this product against them. Contact us if something has genuinely gone wrong. Refunds and cancellations has the details.
Your account
You can download a copy of your data in the app (You, then Settings, then Download my data), and delete your account there too, or on the account deletion page. Deleting cancels the gifts nobody has accepted yet and releases their holds; gifts already accepted are delivered first. Privacy says what is deleted and what we have to keep.
Using Vela to harass someone is not allowed
Repeatedly sending gifts to someone who has declined, using the gift message to contact someone who does not want contact, or impersonating another person will get the account closed. Recipients can block a sender permanently in one tap, and that block is honoured before a gift is ever created. The full rules are in our Acceptable use policy.
