This page covers people who use Vela to send gifts. If someone sent you a gift, the page you want is how we handle your delivery details.
The short version
- We collect what we need to send a gift and nothing else.
- We never show you the address your gift is delivered to. That is a structural property of how the product is built, not a setting.
- We do not sell your data, and we do not share it for advertising.
- Payment card details go to Stripe and never touch our servers.
What we collect from you
Your account
Your name, an email address or phone number to sign in with, and anything you choose to add to your profile.
The people you add
The names, the occasions you want reminding about, and the country you believe each person is in. That last one is what you told us; it is never corrected from what a recipient later enters, because correcting it would tell you they had moved.
Your gifts
What you chose, what you paid, what you wrote in the message, and the status of the delivery.
What you will never see
The recipient’s address, city, region, postcode, phone number, the tracking number, the carrier, the delivery estimate derived from their address, or their confirmed country. Not in the app, not in an email, not in a notification, and not from our support team.
The reason is not squeamishness. A gift link can be sent to someone who has moved to get away from the person sending it, and a product that quietly answers “where are they now?” is a tool for finding them. We would rather show you less.
Your agreement and your age
Vela is for people aged 18 and over. When you create an account we record that you confirmed this and accepted our Terms and this notice, with the date and the version you saw. We keep that record as evidence of what you agreed to, even after you delete your account.
Cookies
We use only the cookies needed to sign you in, finish a sign-up and open a gift, and none for advertising or analytics. Cookies lists each one.
Payments
Stripe processes payments and is the record of what was charged. Your card details are entered with Stripe and never reach Vela’s servers. We store the last four digits and the card brand so you can tell your cards apart, and the Stripe identifiers we need to issue a refund.
How long we keep things
Account data for as long as you have an account, then 30 days. Order records for seven years, because tax law requires it. Delivery addresses are deleted within 30 days of delivery. Anything we keep for analytics is aggregated and carries no address component.
Your rights
You can see what we hold, correct it, take a copy of it, or ask us to delete it.
- A copy of your data. In the Vela app, open You, then Settings, then Download my data. You get a file with your account, your people and dates, and the gifts you sent. It never includes anyone’s address.
- Deleting your account. In the app, open You, then Settings, then Delete account, or sign in on the account deletion page. Nothing happens for seven days, so you can change your mind. Gifts nobody has accepted yet are cancelled and the holds on your card are released. A gift someone already accepted is delivered first.
When your account is deleted, your sign-in, your people, their dates, your reminders and your wishlist go. Some things stay, for a reason:
- Order records stay for seven years because tax law requires it, with your name and email taken off them.
- A message you wrote with a gift stays with that gift for 90 days after it closes, or longer if someone reported it. If you signed it with your name, your name stays in it.
- Safety records, such as a report about a gift, are kept so we can keep people safe.
- If you wrote to our support team, your message and the name and email you gave stay for up to 18 months, so we can finish helping you and look back if the same problem comes up again.
